Do You Fear Change? | Yoga Philosophy: Abhinivesha

sourced from: https://www.yogateachertrainingyogacara.com/do-you-fear-change-yoga-philosophy-abhinivesha/

Abhinivesha, sometimes translated as “clinging to life” or “fear of death”, is a concept that quite easily rattles me. You see, I like think of myself as a person who is ok with the fragility of life. With some serious life-threatening health issues in my past I felt as though I had come to terms with Abhinivesha and uncertainty. Abhinivesha is one of the five Kleshas, introduced by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. The five Kleshas are the ways in which we suffer and are obstacles to our spiritual growth. Along with Abhinivesha, the Kleshas are: ignorance (avidya), egoism (asmita), attachmen… Read More

Brahmacharya & The Effects of Excess Extroversion (On Introverts)

sourced from: https://www.yogateachertrainingyogacara.com/brahmacharya-the-effects-of-excess-extroversion-on-introverts/

Recently I got a lesson in excess extroversion and practicing non-excess as an introvert. I spent four days helping my brother and his fiancee prepare for their wedding. From the moment we got up, to when we went to bed, it was non-stop wedding preparation.

We were stressed, forgot to eat and drank more coffee than we should have. I was riding high on the happiness of the occasion and the desire to get everything done before the wedding that I didn’t even notice how tired I was. Naturally, I’m a pretty introverted person and the excess extroversion was silently taking it’s toll on me.

On the morning after the wedding I was cranky, exhausted and emotiona… Read More
