Watch the Elements AIR Sequence here

sourced from: https://yogasynergy.com/2018/08/10/watch-the-elements-air-sequence-here/

Our Air sequence started this week in class. See the slideshow of sequence poses below.

The Yoga Synergy sequences were named in honour of the pancha mahabhuta (5 Great Elements) of Hinduism and Ayurveda that are believed to make up all of creation, including the human body – which, upon death, dissolves into these five elements of nature, thereby balancing the cycle of nature set in motion by the creative force of the universe.

Air

Air is the fourth of the 5 sequences, designed to lighten the body and spirit as we move out of the winter and into the spring. In Ayurvedic terms, Air (Vaayu ), the wind, is “backdrop” of our environment (the surroundings that we may not always notice). Air is the second lightest element next to ether, in that we can perceive it both visually, and tactilely (in tree branches moving in the wind or in the feel of it on our skin). The intention with which we practice this sequence is to move the stale energy of winter, and bring a lig… Read More

Believing In Our Breakdowns

sourced from: https://www.yogateachertrainingyogacara.com/believing-in-our-breakdowns/

We all reach a point, somewhere at sometime, when we break down. Things reach critical mass and then suddenly, we can’t take anymore. Our composure cracks and the tears fall, despite our embarrassment or shame. Perhaps you’re the type to keep it all together at any cost, saving all your pain to be reabsorbed into your body. Maybe you can only release when you feel safe.

In what we call, “breakdowns” our weaknesses seem to get the best of us. They steal away our confident composure and pride. But reaching your breaking point doesn’t mean you’ve failed in anyway. In fact, maybe you’re close to breaking through to something more. Don’t we need our tears?

Modern western society demands that we work, that we are productive,… Read More

Three Signs That You Would Benefit From Meditation

sourced from: http://dailycupofyoga.com/2018/08/08/three-signs-that-you-would-benefit-from-meditation/

There aren’t many of us who wouldn’t benefit from meditation. In our hectic modern world, simply dedicating 20 minutes a day to peace, quiet and reflection is an act of self-care, giving us the space we need to slow down and switch off. However, there are times in life when the need for meditation can feel particularly keen, and if you recognize these signs, it may be time to start, ramp up or recommit to your meditation habit.

1. You are tired more often than not

Feeling exhausted all the time is a common issue for us modern humans. So many of us drag ourselves out of bed, power ourselves through the day with caffeine and then – despite feeling tired all day – find it difficult to sleep at night. Every month in the USA, people type “tired… Read More

The Top 6 Yogi Tested Meditation Cushions & Pillows

sourced from: http://www.yogabasics.com/connect/yoga-blog/best-meditation-cushions/

Originally, the Sanskrit word asana was not intended to describe the countless yoga postures we now practice, but instead as a name for the comfortable and supportive seat used in meditation practice. It makes perfect sense that “seat” is the root of the word asana—having the right place to sit during meditation is truly the root, or foundation, of a great practice. The right seat will improve your posture, properly …
