Hi Yogis,

I am honoured to be one of 25 master yoga teachers, consciousness leaders and wisdom keepers chosen to discuss natural intelligence — how yoga at its roots is designed to connect us to our essential, natural Selves, and how reconnecting to this nature-based wisdom is vital to heal and whole not only us personally, but our world.

My Talk is called, “Normal People Living an Unnatural Life” and I share how the norm for modern humans is physiologically unnatural, and why hatha yoga must be adapted to support us in returning to our natural state.

Please join me, along with H.H. Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswati, Dr. Bruce Lipton, Trevor Hall, Ana Forrest, Saul David Raye, Janet Stone and so many other inspiring leaders in the field of yoga and awakening consciousness to learn tools, tips and yogic wisdom to heal dis-ease … Read More

The yoga mat industry has changed dramatically since then, now there is a dizzying number of brands that offer multiple styles of mats with various properties based on the materials, thickness, style of yoga practiced. We recently were sent a pile of yoga mats to …

Is there any way I can reduce the pressure in my head during headstand?

sourced from: https://yogasynergy.com/way-can-reduce-pressure-head-headstand/

I have been asked the following question about inverted postures and headstand in particular. Here is my short general answer:

QUESTION: Is there any way I can reduce the pressure in my head during headstand?

MY ANSWER: Headstand is an advanced posture and should not be attempted by most people. It requires adequate neck and upper body strength, adaptation to tolerate increased blood pressure, as well as the ability to control blood flow.

It is written that a main purpose of headstand is to increase blood flow to the head with gravity. In a relaxed body the downward force of gravity is more powerful than the upward pressure force of the heart. So part of learning headstand involves adapting to having a greater amount of blood in the head. It takes time to adapt to pressure increases in the head but this can be assisted by practicing simple partially inverted postures such as the standing forward bend (uttanasana). However, inversions do not necessarily have to i… Read More

Foot Love Scrub | Recipe

sourced from: https://www.yogateachertrainingyogacara.com/foot-love-scrub-recipe/

We often paint our toenails pretty colours but rarely treat the skin on our feet with the same love as the rest of our body. Here is my favourite “foot love scrub” recipe, which will help to brighten and moisturize the feet whilst removing dead skin cells.

Ingredients:
~ ¼ cup of brown sugar
~ 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
~ 2 tablespoons of honey
~ 3 drops of peppermint essential oil

Method:

Gently massage the aromatic paste into your feet. As you get used to the texture (it can feel a little cold at first), you can “scrub” the feet a little more vigorously to buff away any dry skin.

Rinse with warm water and pat your happy feet dry with a towel.

A regular “foot lov… Read More

Back Pain during yoga. Can you suggest anything to help me?

sourced from: https://yogasynergy.com/back-pain-during-yoga/

I have been asked the following question about back pain doing postures. Here is my short general answer:

QUESTION: I have difficulty breathing in when I drop back to a back arch (urdhva dhanurasana) from standing with my arms in the air (urdhva hastasana) as it aggravates my back pain. Can you suggest anything to help me?

MY ANSWER: It is common problem to confuse the muscles of trunk stability with the muscles of breathing. It sounds like that is what you are doing. When you ‘drop back’ to a back arch you need to be ‘firm but calm’ (sthira sukham asanam). Trunk firmness is best achieved in the upper trunk by compressing the chest by keeping the ribs inwards with the same muscles you use to make a forced exhalation from the chest. This action, in which the ribs are held close to the spine, is a type of compressive uddiyana bandha (chest lock).

However, when you using the muscles of chest exhalation to hold the trunk firm you cannot use the chest to inh… Read More

Yoga Practice and the Appreciation of the Body in Forward Fold

sourced from: http://dailycupofyoga.com/2018/04/26/yoga-practice-and-the-appreciation-of-the-body-in-forward-fold/

Very often when people talk to me about their first experience in yoga they are disappointed about their body, because their body is not flexible. They see their teacher and classmates folding into poses like origami and get discouraged. Or they search for yoga inspiration online and they find the most beautiful pictures of people in out-of-this-world yoga poses. “How am I ever going to get there?”

Each time I tell them yoga is not about the acrobatics. It’s not about showing off skills. People who can bend and fold like that have practiced yoga for a long time and they love what they can do with their bodies. They have explored their body’s strength and flexibility and appreciate this every day.

This first experience is a wonderful thing; you have started a journey th… Read More
